The inside ones pad the handle from making noise when you let go of the handle. I don't have stock exterior handles to take a picture of but, the exterior would probably be on the part that actuates the rod leading to the lock body.

Wow. That is one retarded, rapey sticker shock for a tiny bumper. On the inside handles, just turn the bumper 90*. The handle compresses the bumper in a small area, turning the bumper 90* moves the spot where the handle rests to an uncompressed part of the bumper.

On the outside handles, it's not the bumper thats the problem, it's the metal on metal bearing points, and the steel wire spring. Grease the pivots, if the spring is broke replace the handle. If the rubber is shot, replace the handle or search Google for a replacement bumper. There has to be a rubber snubber available with a more realistic price than "grab yer ankles".

If you have a company near by that sells commercial walk through doors/frames, they would probably give you a few door frame silencers for free. They are a pinch bigger but, nearly identical to what is in the handle. .

Amazon Amazon

You can always tell guys that own old cars from those that don't because of our calloused ankles.
