Odd gap on A pillar

I recently noticed a weird gap on the passenger side A pillar within the metal right before the window meets the door. It doesn't look like anything is missing comparing it to the drivers side. Do you guys have any thoughts on what might be causing this (missing piece, misaligned molding, poor Gm quality control etc)?

Re: Odd gap on A pillar

Looks to me like the weatherstripping's not in the channel. I actually drove my Camaro for over a week before I realized that I didn't install mine properly. There's 2-3 channels that each of those weatherstripping pieces need to fit into. If it's not too brittle, you can probably carefully remove it and re-install it correctly.

I have the exact same issue on my 87 IROC. Were you able to fix it?

the weatherstrip is installed within a metal c-channel that can be removed from the A-pillar. This c-channel looks to be the piece warped.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will check into that. If I end up needing to order a new one, what would that piece be called and where can I get it? I am searching A pillar on Classic Industries and that channel isnt popping up. Thanks!

Re: Odd gap on A pillar

You might have accidentally pressed your hand or something there before and pushed it down, it doesn't take much effort to do that. That metal/channel is pretty thin and can/will bend easily back "in place"

Re: Odd gap on A pillar

yeah

peel back your weather stripping and you'll see the channel. held in place with a few screws.

you may be able to bend it back with it still installed.

a ham-fisted passenger could easily have bent it down like that. easy enough to fix, even if you have to remove it.
