Next project: Fixing the wobbly hood

The hood on my 1992 Camaro wobbles side to side very easily when it is open (up). It also tends to either lift up side ways (drive side goes up first) or go down side ways. I was wondering if this is the hinge issues or something else. The hinges seems to be very flimsy for such a heavy hood. I saw a you tube video that a guy was drilling out the rivets from the hinge and replacing them with bolts.
Is this a common issue? Should I replace the hinges or is there any other remedy?
Thanks for the help.

Start with simple first. Make sure your hinge bolts are tight on the top of the fenders

Re: Next project: Fixing the wobbly hood

How are your hood gaps/alignment with the fenders and front bumper piece? Not just the thickness of the gaps, but the up and down as well. I've found that if the up and down adjustment screws aren't level (or really close), whichever side is higher will want to open first. If you look on the hinge, towards the windshield end, there's a screw. It might have a rubber cover over it. That screw is a hood stop. When it's closed, the hood rests on it. Minor adjustments won't make a huge difference in the panel alignment, but might help with un-even opening. I've had that work on both of my recent IROCs.

As for the wobble, It's hard to say what is normal. I don't normally check for wobble, but I wonder if it's one of those things where it's totally normal but once you pay attention, it seems like it's excessive, but yet has always been that way. I'd check the bolts on the hood and fender, make sure they're tight like Dagwood said. I can't imagine those rivets getting too loose, but hey, anything is possible.

Let us know what you find.

My factory hinges were worn on the rivets. I had lots of slop. But, these cars are made cheap and everything’s flimsy, what you’re seeing could be normal.
