Third gen front bumper options

So I have a 1986 Pontiac Firebird but I really don't like the look of the original bumper.
I like the look of the Trans am front bumper from around the same year, does anyone know if I can easily make that work for my car, or are there any other nice aftermarket bumpers I can purchase?

The bumper will fit, but you’ll need to add ground effects around the rest of the car, including a new rear bumper cover for it to look right. I’ve done it before bay adding 1987 Trans Am plastic to a 1982. If you want to go down that road, a have a lot of those parts laying around.

Correct, an 85-90 Trans-am bumper will fit, except that it will look funny if you don’t add all of the ground effects and change the rear bumper as well.

Another option would be to change the front bumper to a 91-92 style. You would also need the energy absorber, headlights and park lights, but it wouldn’t be a difficult swap.

Re: Third gen front bumper options

I swapped 82-84 Firebird Front and Rear bumper covers onto my Formula.

Rear Bumper was a direct swap, Front Requires the 82-84 Impact absorber plastic or the whole bumper assembly swapped.

Then in the front you can use the stock 82-84 Grilles, or the 84 Trans Am aero inserts, which is what I did. The drivers side has Trans Am lettering that can be filled in. Pic below in my Sig

Yes sir. My car is actually a Formula. PO had put aftermarket ground effects and some OEM. I changed it all out to OEM parts I found on this site before we painted it.

You might be able to get a fiberglass bumper that's smooth and doesn't use the "bumperettes"
