I've just acquired my first Camaro. It's a black and tan 1992 Z-28 Convertible. At some point it was hit in the front-end and the front was re-painted. The headlight openings are currently gloss black and I'm under the impression that they should be flat.
Are the blisters supposed to be flat as well? They need repainting as water has been standing in the "vents" for years. Is this normal? Is there something I should do to to prevent the water from pooling up?
Blisters are body color, vents are non functional, so water just stays put. Wipe/blow or whatever it takes to keep the water off. I believe the (correct) shade is satin for the headlight pockets, but definitely not gloss. They tend to go "flat" after a few years probably.
Pics? and welcome.
I did my headlight buckets in Trim Black -- I'd say Satin is probably correct. Not Flat, and not Gloss.
I agree with "satin" not flat/matte. With regard to Trim Black, if you're referring to SEM "trim black" I believe that's too much matte, and not enough "satin", for a factory appearance. I use SEM Trim for all kinds of trim, and when I painted my 89, I used SEM trim black for the headlight buckets and felt it was too matte. Not a final answer, just my opinion. ...and of course, that doesn't mean it looked bad, just (in my opinion) not quite factory.
...that's the paint I was referring to in my post. While I use the paint all the time for various trim projects, I don't think it's got enough sheen for the headlight buckets.Needs a little more gloss in my opinion. That being said, it's great paint, easy to spray and flows out nice and even. Good stuff.
