T-Top Side weatherstrip Misinformation By Major Brands
Hoping some of you can clear this up. There is an early and late T-Top side gasket, yet all of the major manufacturers list these as 82 to 92. Early 82-88 gaskets had a slanted end whereas the later gaskets from 89-92 had a more square end. I understand if you buy a full kit this doesn’t matter because you’re buying the later body seals that match up to these gaskets. My question is for those of you with the earlier cars that only replaced the ttop gaskets. Have you run into any issue with leaks by just replacing the ttop gaskets currently on the market, or are they just close enough where they work OK?
**Disclaimer- I’m not 100% sure on the cut off year being 88-89
** in the photos below. I have a new, in the package later GM t top w/s next to an early installed weatherstrip.

I can't remember the year 90? 91? But GM put drains in the A and B pillars of the body side ttop seal. That may be the difference you're referring to.
it would be best to keep the early and lates as a set.

thank you sir. I agree with you on keeping them as a set. My contention is with the industry advertising the ttop gaskets as 82 to 92 and why no one ever brings this up? F bodies are known to leak, and I am just surprised this is not a more discussed topic.

IIRC, the drains are only on the seals that attach to the body, not the t-tops themselves. Late build 1991 cars have them, as do all 1992 cars. Pretty dumb that none of the aftermarket suppliers have the drains, IMO.

yes, the drains are body side only, that may have prompted a redesign to the ttop seal. Ive honestly never checked, i updated my 89s seals to to 92 style with drains years ago when you could buy the kits from GM for 150 bux for everything.
