i think thats the vehicle full tank of fuel and AVERAGE 4 people inside.

Tank hold about 13 gallons of gas. Density is 0.75. Take 4 people at an average of 150 pounds. Then add the weight of the vehicle + fuel + people weight.

Is the sticker missing on the driver's door? There should be a sticker that shows the GVWR.

Also, I think "people" average closer to 200 lbs these days. Not that that has any bearing on GVWR's. The rating is the rating. It's up to the operator to determine how many fat people, luggage etc, the car can take before crossing over the max GVWR limit.

Yep-drivers door sticker will show the GVW: looked at my car and the GVW specs were not readable. I have a 1982 road test article from Road and Track or the like,and the curb weight of 2 loaded '82 z28s were 3440 for the hardtop and 3480 for the t-top car. Youu are right about people size these days:I was 140 lb during my young adult years and my jeans size was often sold out at the stores-now days 30" waist might be special order
