Hi guys not sure if this has ever been attempted on this forum before. Wanted to share the journey in case any one else wants to to attempt this. love the high rise 91-92 and got one for my bird that’s in primer rn. And I got it and was super disappointed the rear qauters of a Camaro are skinner than of a bird. So it had an ugly gap. So I am attempting to cut and widen the spoiler. No professional so follow along at your own risk. This is a work in progress. No going back First test fitting Liking the way it curves with the panel more now. Inner braces after lining everything up.
Re: 91-92 high rise spoiler Camaro fitted to firebird
Updates glasses everything up wasent too trusting at first, second time doing glass but after repouring more in I have something solid. did some upol filler on top. Now got to work on simply drilling and filling old holes. Going to only bolt it in from the center two holes and hope it holds like 1969 firebirds. After a good sanding with a flap disk and cutting wheel. Second pouring of fiber glass resin and mesh from 3m After bondo. Was originally planing on adding two peices of fiber glass on the far sides of the spoiler as now I have made it too wide to bolt to the deck lid. But am going to “wing it” and just go with the center ones bolted down.
Re: 91-92 high rise spoiler Camaro fitted to firebird
I currently have the 91-92 highrise spoiler on my 89 TA because as everyone knows the wrap around spoilers on these cars did not hold up well and i have loved these spoilers since I first seen them. Not sure what you mean about not fitting properly? I actually had to go out and measure 3 different 91-92 Z28s to get the correct spot the spoiler should be at and adjust mine from there. In this picture (only one I had on my computer) it looks lifted and a bit off but my hatch motor needed adjusted and I was waiting for my billet Hawks hinges. The outside mounts of the spoiler fit perfeclty as the 3rd gen hatch fits both camaro and firebird. From the picture you have it looks like you are planning on just using the center mounts of the spoiler and not using the outside mounts or lining them up to mount on the fender? I would be concerned that spoiler would flex, warp or break if you do not use the outside mounting points that the spiler was designed with.

Re: 91-92 high rise spoiler Camaro fitted to firebird
scottycamaroz28 I cut and widened the spoiler by two inches. The Camaros are skinner in the rear quarters, I dident like the one inch gap from being flush with the quarters On each side. So my outside bolts no longer line up.
I’m concern they will be needed too.
Re: 91-92 high rise spoiler Camaro fitted to firebird
I wish you all the luck with it. Hopefully the outside mounts are not needed. I am concered that 4 bolts that are about 1/4" diameter might not be enough. But it does look like you are handy with the fiberglass and can get something to work out

Nice! That actually looks pretty good. If the center supports curved with the tail light section, it’d be almost perfect.

Where did you get those mudflaps from I have. A trailer park wide tire fitment and it will be throwing rocks at my new paint
I had just assumed they were stock or even a dealer installed option? I work at a Honda dealer and sales makes service put a set on every new Honda that comes in.
My 89 parts car Trans Am has them as well but they are really faded
Re: 91-92 high rise spoiler Camaro fitted to firebird
Not sure as to the origin, but I think I might still have a set of mudflaps that I pulled off of an '88 V6 Firebird at the junkyard a few years back... should still be sitting in the shed, didn't fit with my '92 GFX. They're pretty ratty from what I recall, but not broken. I can try to find 'em for you and get pics when I get home, I'll send em over for the cost of shipping if you have any interest. Should fit if your car is late 80s. Dad would be pretty happy to get more car parts out of his shed

I don't believe the larger studs will do you any good, as I believe the originals would be plenty strong enough to get the job done. But too late now. I'm really curious how the spoiler itself will hold up being mounted with just the center pedestals. Possible fatigue cracks in the spoiler and/or paint damage on the tops of the quarter panels.
One thing is certain though, the added width definitely looks great on the Firebird body.
Re: 91-92 high rise spoiler Camaro fitted to firebird
This is a great thread. Love the wider look and always thought that the high-rise was a better look on the Trans Am than the Camaro. Check out the '69 T/A...
Looks like the inside part of the outer pylons is nearly flush with the outside edge of the decklid. Couldn't you fashion a small offset bracket to fasten it? Like this...
