anyone here with leaky t-tops?

This is my first time here and I have to say this is a really cool site! Any of you guys ever change the metal piece right above the t-bar? It's the piece that the molding and tops fits into. I was checking out my molding today on my 87 Z-28 and noticed a LOT of rust under it. I was sh****** because I thought all that rust was from my t-bar. I pulled up the molding and saw that metal piece was fully rusted. There are four screws that hold it in place but they were so rusted that I just yanked on it a few times and it flew off with a thousand rusted metal pieces coming with it. I was happy to see though that my t-bar was still in good shape. I have already torn out my headliner a couple years ago because it was just falling apart because of the water leaking in. Do any of you know what that metal part is called and do I have to order it through the dealership or can I get an aftermarket piece? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

I know my ttops leak. I heard they all do to a degree unless you put new weather stripping on.

Check www.yearone.com or www.classicindustries.com both of 'em have restoration parts for Camaros/Firebirds and they may have the part that your looking for. Unfortunately I do not know what the name of that part is...but I know the one you're talking about.

Thanks guys. A little advice to any of you experiencing leaks--fix it as soon as possible before parts start rusting. I hope some of you will avoid this problem because of my mistakes.

I did last week! This weekend I used some silicone sealer from Advance Auto parts. I spead it along the rust or wherever metal met. I also applied it onder the weatherstriping (were it is applied to the body). It survived yesterday's rain so it's holding up.

Also, put some vaseline on the seals. It sometimes helps. Unfortunately I haven't had time to fix mine yet, but they don't really leak unless it's raining pretty hard for awhile. Still annoying though.
