You really don't want to remove the original paint unless it is cracked, peeling, etc. Two grand should get you a decent paint job if you disassemble everything you can - lights, fenderwells, mirrors, spoiler, trim, weatherstripping, etc etc etc.

key word disassemble, take everything apart that's possible........the obvious anyway, this will save you large amounts. leave the body work to the professionals. you should have no problem if you take all the necessary stuff apart.

It really depends how much body work the car needs. When I had my car painted, the paint job itself was $800, but with all the body work, which really was just sanding and fixing little dings and scratches the bill came to $3500.

Just go to a few shops and get estimates.

I dropped my '86 IROCZ project car off at the body shop yesterday. Befre I did so I had to do some body repairs,( replace the left door and fender) etc. They told me not to do any sanding or other body work, etc. They said to just remove everthing I could, headlight, parking, tail, fog, ground effects, door kocks, hood louvers, the front thing that says Camaro near the fog lights that the front license plate bracket attaches to,door weather stripping that touches the door glass, install a set of crappy wheels.

I was quoted $2,000.00 for a show quality BLACK paint job. So I don't think that is too bad.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

Remember, you get what you pay for. I think you'd be able to get a pretty good paint job for $2000 if you did all the prep and disassembling. What color are you going with?
