Rear Calipers: Which side?

I just bought a Borg Warner 9 bolt rear end from a guy and I'm just about ready to put it into my 92 RS.

I noticed that if the rear end was installed, one caliper on the brake would be on the side of the wheel closest to the front of the car, and the other would be towards the rear.

I've never seen a setup like this. All calipers seen to be in the same position on rear ends. Is there an advantage/disadvantage do the way mine is set up?

I'm thinking the previous owner had some fitment issue or something and swtiched the positions...

Cast iron, pre-1989 Delco Moraine calipers? Perfectly normal.

You know, I have no idea what kinda of calipers they are...

The rearend came from a guy with an 89RS though. Should I switch the calipers to the same side? If so, should they be on side of the wheel closest to the front of the car, or on the opposite side?

While I'm at it, since I have drum brakes, will I need a proportioning valve to correct the pressue to the brakes? The guy that I bought it from didn't, but his car was a few years older..

On that rearend design you can't. Just leave them there.
