82-88 disc rear - convert to LT1 brakes?

Question - I have an early disc brake rear - 10-bolt.

Can I swap brakes from an LT1 rear? I don't care about parking brake as this is a race car. I also heard I could use C4 rear brakes - I might even have a spare set laying around from my C4 days, I need to look.

What is involved in the swap - is it complete bolt-on? Just swap the backing plates to the 89-92 10-bolt ones, swap the hardlines as needed, and the calipers themselves? Anything else?

Hey, c4, welcome to the site. You'll find that there's a wealth of info here; consequently, a search is always a good thing. You might start with this link for example:

I did a search, but it wasn't completely clear to me.

So these backing plates will bolt directly to a 82-88 disc brake 10-bolt and allow the pbr caliper mounting:

Note the 10-bolt backing plates, available from GM (P/N 10136853 and 10136854).

Just double checking if I got that right.

I just got through installing a set of LT1 disc brake rears on my 40 Chevy that has a 10 bolt 73 Nova rear, and it was truly a piece of cake.
I turned the axle hubs down so the rotors would slip on and the rest was bolt on. No shims or anything. My rotors are centered in the abutments just fine.
Maybe I was just lucky.
The ebrake cables are pretty easy to work out also.
The weights had to come off the calipers to clear my leaf springs.
The threads are wonderful on TGO if you take the time to read through several of them. Then a little common sense and you can do your job.

I have no experience with the LT1 backing plates; however, the 89-92 plates will accomodate the LT1 PBR calipers, which are essentially the same as the 89-92 PBR's.

I have all the rear conversion parts on hand if you need anything from backing plates to banjo bolts, LMK.
