I'm buying some EBC brakes and theres some confusion over what partnumbers to go with and i just wanted to figure it out.
For 82-88 they have pn DP31146C for both the front AND rears
My car is a 90 and it has the DP31146C for the fronts but from 88 all the way to 97 the pn for the rears is DP31167C
My rear pads are way smaller then my fronts, so why in 82-88 would the rear disc cars have the same size front and rear pads?

Because from 82-88 they used a similar caliper design front and rear that used the same pads.

Because 82-88 rear discs are Saginaw, the same mfr (a GM internal div) as the fronts; where the 89-up are PBR (an Aussie co).
This is not a case where size matters. Your PBR brakes, even with the smaller pads, have near twice the stopping power of the old system.

so does this mean that if i could get a set of 82-88 rear calipers i would have better breaking?
Also is the disc size the same on the rear of the 82-88 or would it be larger too.
Also lol, why did they change this for later model cars?

Thanks guys

I'm not sure how that could possibly be?Those crappy Saginaw calipers are half the reason why that braking system sucks so bad. The other half is because the rotors are so small. Pad size has nothing to do with how much stopping power the brakes have, once it's past the point of being "adequate".
They probably changed because they had so many warranty problems (cost) with the old crappy system.
sorry that question was in response to aperions answer, i hadnt even had a chance to reply to it before you chimed in
You guys both posted within like 60 seconds of me putting up the original thread lol.
