i got ceramic brakes for the front in my 91 rs and ever since week 2 they squeal worse then the semi-metallic pads did. they are supposed to be completely silent! I greased everything with caliper grease, even put some on the back of the pad and on the piston itself to prevent noise and no luck. it is driving me crazy, it sounds like i need new brakes but they are brand new! what is the problem?

Did you scuff the brake pads up? Take some sand paper or a wire brush and scuff the pads up. Also what do your rotors look like? Are they scored at all or anything? Also make sure nothing is rubbing agianst your rotors like backing plates. If scuffing the pads up didn't do anything then you could just have some bad brake pads. I work at an independant shop and sometimes the napa brake pads are bad. It also depends on which kind you have too. The cheaper pads usually squeal more.

no i did not know you were supposed to scuff the pad up a bit. i have the stock rotors and i don't have the equipment to check if they are within spec but visually they look good. i know with ceramic pads you should have slotted rotors but i don't.

If the squealers aren't touching, then it is probably normal. New brake pads no longer used asbestos, which kept the brakes quiet. You need to scuff up the pad and there's some graphite stuff you need to put on them too. I haven't had to do this myself yet, but you can get the kit to do this from a GM dealer.

autozone parts suck! i just switched from the cermaic pads to hawk hps pads, i never had a problem with noise but they could never lock the fronts not even close almost evry part i've gotten from autozone has sucked, now i go to pepboys better parts and better people

well today they finally quit squeaking! I don't know what i did but they quit. maybe there was a protective oil or film i did not notice and it finally burnt off? who knows! Ya for me it's NAPA from now on the have great parts. i've heard good things from pepboys too though
