Which one
So which of these two rear ends would be better overall..and why ? (I'm talking about the entire setup ... disc rotor to disc rotor ... including gear .. including calipers):
Complete rear axle from a '93 Camaro Z28
or
Complete rear axle from a '99 Firebird V6
I read something about the brakes being bigger on '98 or '99 and up cars, but does that apply to LS1 cars only, or the V6 models as well ?
The '99 shouldn't have a cluth differential, correct ? And the gear ratio should be hmmmm 3.08 ? ... While the '93 may be 2.73 ??
I can't measure right now which rear end has the bigger brakes, don't have the rears here right now.

Re: Which one
The 93 will have an Auburn posi. :barf:
The 99 6-cyl one will probably not have posi at all. :barf:
The brakes aren't too much different, except for the parking brake; the 93 uses the pads like the 90-92 setup in these cars, but the later one uses a separate little drum system in the middle of the rotor. The "service" brakes, the ones you use while you're driving around, are pretty similar though.
If I were faced with that choice, I would choose to buy neither, and keep on looking.
The thing about the brakes being "bigger" on the 98-up cars applies to the fronts.

Re: Which one
I need a 4th Gen rear end real bad, have the Corvette copy wheels laying around and they have much better tires than my stock 16's (where the rear ones are totally and i mean totally worn out)
However it's real hard to find 4th Gen parts here.

Re: Which one
OK, the '99 V6 had dual exit muffler, which would mean a performance version. However the RPO codes didn't have the G80 listed, so no good right there. It was a GU4 axle.
Couldn't get the wheels of the Z28, besides reason why that one sucks is one can't rebuild those clutch type posi units, correct ?
Did see an '85 Iroc, with 3:42 gears, however of course 3rd Gen width, and that posi could be bad too huh ?
