heres a new one,for me anyway
In process of working on my 91 T/A e brakes..noticed that the plastic sheathing is melted off of the cables ???? WTF...I have no Idea how this coulda happened..when I got the car they didn't work..

The cables are supposed to be retained by two "S" hooks in the trans tunnel. If you don't have these, the cables can (and will) contact the exhaust and cause this to happen. The hooks look like this:

The following e-brake guides are available from GM (P/N 10285819 R and 10285818 L) or they used to be. They route the cables away from problems such as exhaust:
