Parking brake cable need replacing?

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question. My 91 V6 Firebird has a self adjusting parking brake, so the Chilton says but I'm finding I have to have the parking lever nearly upright to work! Does this mean the cable(s) need replacing and/or the brake shoes are worn?

Thanks,

Ian

No thats not the issue, there is an ajustment section befor the cable splits between the 2 drums, I had the same issue before, its a pain to get at but you can do it.

Is it drum? Sounds like it.
If so like was said, find the split in the cables (rr and lr) their is an adjusting nut. All you have to do it adjust it. If that does not work you cable it worn out and you need a new one.

i would check the drums first, seeing as how that self adjuster is supposed to compensate for wear, also its a whole lot easier taking off the wheel and drum then fixing the adjuster braket
