What's the position on the fronts and rears?

Both should be on the inboard pad towards the top, on the trailing edge of the pad as the rotor is spinning forward as the car is moving.

Humm, that's the way I remembered the position--and there's a pic in the following link that shows the pad as you describe, but the caliper I purchased was loaded with the sensor at the bottom/leading edge.

I've been there as well, some rebuilt calipers are built by idiots, those who install new pistons without lubing them up and pinch the seals causing the calipers to leak, using standard thread nuts on metric caliper bolts, etc.

The reason to install them on the trailing edge is that if and when you wear the pads down that much, that the wear indicator will drag to let you know. If they are installed on the leading edge, the wear indicator could get caught by the rotor and bent up under the pad causing the indicator to groove the rotor which is not good. With you having D/S rotors this could be more likely. I've personally never seen it but it has happened.
