finally boosted........

finally made the plunge and junked the electric vacuum pump over the winter for a hydroboost unit. freaking a..............i have assist now. just wanted to share the experience and let anyone know i followed the otherposts here for doing the 94 astro swap and its a snap.

you just need a welder and/or a machinst for everything that was listed prior(i.e. the push rod and master) the master can be skipped if you use the 4th gen ones but they were expensive and i have free machining so i went with a 3rd gen. everything fits fine. if you go the route you might want to pop for a 4th gen master only because if the master fails you can get a replacement anywhere vs trying to machine a 3rd gen master 200 miles from home on a road trip. i used an old brake pedal assembly(thanks denny from 3rd gen ranch) as a mock up for the correct pushrod length. the 3rd gen master/res fir fine even with my edelbrock strut brace.

the lines were the hardest part. i went with the braided and made my own. you can have hoses made but i wanted the braided. they were that expensive but with them fittings you have to play around with them tightening the fitting to the line because once you tightened them thats where the fittings stays and if its not inline with your pump or master it wont work. the stainless lines dont twist.

i managed to find a master at autozone from an earlier pickup which had 2 return lines welded onto resevior. .it fit my serpentine brackets fine. i know some guys tee the return line but i wasnt taking a chance and wanted dedicated return lines. the pump was only 32 dollars.

i took a few pics(sorry only had the cell) ..let me know if anyone needs advice doing it but the earlier posts cover just about everything. the only issue i had was the rod coming out from the booster into the master was either a c-hair too long or the master was a tad too long in that the master wouldnt sit flush on the booster and if you tried to tighten it down it would actually start to engage the master cylinder(ie apply the brakes) it was minimal, about .040-.060 but i couldnt chance it. i didnt read about anyone else having this issue. i just made a shim for the master to take up the room. seems to work fine.
