WHY

My left rear wheel keeps locking up when i go to break after the car sits in the rain . All of the other brakes work but the left rear skids along with the car. I have been told it could be a seel leeking oil onto the drum and the heat of breaking burns it off. When it rains this always happens. I took it to two different mechanic and they couldnt figure it out. All of the break components are new except the spring kit. your help would be appreciated

Re: WHY

My right rear does the same after I replaced the brake shoes and turned the drums. It took care of a slightly spongy pedal, and the park brake lever doesn't pull up near as much as it did before. I may have to take a turn or so out of the adjustment wheel (the star wheel between the shoes at the bottom). I haven't been under the car to do this yet, but I think it may be that simple.

Re: WHY

ya that can do it.

try loosining the park brake gear , its auto adjust. put it all back together and pull the brake a few times and drive reverse a little ways and forward too. pull the brake a few more times to set it. see if it stops

i cant remember if they auto set in reverse or not but if you drive forward and back it wont matter

Re: WHY

bump

still having problem, i got new drums, springs and hardware, flex lines, and had them adjusted. there is no oil leaking on the drum. possibaly wrong break pad??? they are on correct also. it seams they grab after a second of breaking also. all you hear is metal on metal, but the pads still have good life in them.

Re: WHY

also it locks up rain or shine, the hotter the breaks get the less it grabs.

Re: WHY

maybe somethin wrong with the cylinders in the drums? it seems like thats all you have left, other then the power booster, proportioning valves( witch i cant see those causing it) either way you are down to very few options left. I would put new cylinders in the drums (unless you have already) to eliminate that as the problem, i dont beleive they cost much
