Looks like I will be replacing the master cylinder at some point. I've noticed for a while that there would get a black film inside the reservoir with small black sediment pieces. Looks like that means the seals are going.

I'm getting a $50 off coupon from Advance. So, I was thinking of going with a $50 NEW Cardone master cylinder that includes the reservoir. Anyone use this brand for a new master cylinder?

Autozone has a NEW MC by Fenco for $60. And I think Napa is $100.

Is no one replacing master cylinders here?

I think mine needs replaced. I just cleaned out the reservoir and flushed most of the brake fluid myself. Then had a shop replace the front calipers.

A couple of days of driving, and the brake fluid in the reservoir is already solid black.

I know when I've cleaned out the reservoir, that there is small black particles and black film I had to clean up. I've read that is the seals breaking down.

I'm gonna start buying parts myself, that way I can use a lifetime warranty. If I have a shop replace it, then they close down. I'm screwed out of my warranty as this is the 2nd or 3rd master cylinder and I don't know where it was bought from.

That doesn't apply to me as I'm keeping my car stock with a stock type master cylinder with power brakes. Looking for recommendations on a stock type master cylinder that you can get at a local parts store. I think it is down to Advance or Autozone.

Thanks. I'm probably gonna spend the $50 or so and get a new one. As this is the 2nd or 3rd one in 10 years. I remember I had gotten a rebuild from Autozone 5 years ago I believe, and it was leaking when the guy was bench bleeding it. I don't recall what they put on instead, but I believe it is the one that is on there now.

I'm thinking the Fenco might be better as I believe Cardone is China. I'll have to keep searching under those brands. But at least what ever I get, it will have a life time warranty. And I'll have my receipt so I won't have to buy another one.

Whatever I get Fenco or Cardone, it is gonna be new. With rebuild, it is a crapshoot. Also the new ones come with a new reservoir already mounted, which I like.

Also, you have to watch out on rebuilds and new ones as some are cast iron. You want aluminum. I know the rebuild Cardone is cast iron. But their new one is aluminum. I'm not sure on Fenco, but they look aluminum.

Hmm. They may have changed things as the price is higher, and it says it doesn't include the reservoir. But it could be a misprint.

Anyways, I'm gonna go new. I may just go with the Cardone since it is $50 new compared to the Fenco which is $60 new.
