so i started up my 84 a li while ago and drove it around the back lot for old times sake and i can't believe how bad the brakes are. i'm constantly changing direction with what i want to do with the car (now i want a big block swap) but i know whatever i do, i want good brakes.

let me know if i'm missing anything.

i plan on getting the 1Le/J65 proportioning valve.

as of now i'm leaning towards the stainless steel lines from hawks.

i've decided i'll put the posi disc 10 bolt i have on.

i'm going to get a new master cylinder.

now is there a big difference between 1LE vs C4/C5 brakes? cost? benefits?

I've been researching the same thing myself for a while. You need to know what size wheels you'll be running. I want to keep the stock 15s so I had to go with the C4 swap. The 1LE and C5 swaps require 16" or bigger wheels. The bigger diameter rotor you can fit under the wheel the better the stopping power. Although I don't see there being much of a difference between the C4 and 1LE brakes. They are basically the same design, the 1LE just uses a slightly thicker rotor.

The C4 upgrade is also really cheap compared to the other 2. I'll have less than $200(probably less than $150 actually) in my setup. But I'm getting the mounting brackets machined for free by a friend. Go to www.corvetteforum.com for the calipers, carriers, and rotors. The guys over there basically gave me those parts for nothing. Caliper rebuild kits are really cheap at any parts store. Getting the rotors turned down into hubs will probably be my biggest single expense.

You'll also need new hoses, either stock rubber or braided. They have to match the caliper you're using.
