How do my rear disc brake calipers go on?

Hi. I bough a reared out of a junk yard and it looked like and older camaro like a 82 or so. And it had backing plates for disc brakes but no calipers or rotors. So I bought rear disc break rotors and calipers for a 89 camaro iroc z. Will Those calipers fit on there? Because I am having trouble getting them to fit. Or maybe I am just being stupid. Any help in that would be great

Just a little helpful advice. Post up some pics of the rearend and the calipers so everyone can see what you have incase you are missing some parts at all since there wasn't any calipers or rotors you might be missing something else as well.. I believe on my 89 formula the rear calipers have a cradle that they sit in.

82-88 rear disc cars were equipped with iron Delco-Moraine calipers and 10.5" rotors. 89+ were equipped with alum PBR's and 11.7" rotors. Without the correct backing plates the latter won't fit the former.

Here's the how-to if you wish to convert:

Other considerations, such as combination valve, parking brake, master and so on, can be found in the following link:

ya i just realized i did buy all the parts for a 89 camaro and i believe the reared is like an 82. so thats my problem. thanks guys. also i ordered a proportioning valve for an 89 camaro. will that work with my 82 reared disc brakes? because my car is a 90 rs and i believe that uses the newer proportioning valve

1st design 1LE valve: M1.0 tube nut threads (1982-early 1989 applications)
2nd design 1LE valve: M1.5 tube nut threads (late 1989-92)

The combination valve designed to fit standard 82-88 rear discs models won't fit your car. You might use the drum or 1LE valve but the bias would be different. How that might effect overall performance, good or bad, I can't say. Furthermore, unless you have the tunnel-mounted adjustment piece, you may also have issues with the parking brake cables. You might be better served by converting your drums to discs. Info about that in the link I provide above.

Good luck with your project.
