Rear brakes confusion.

I have a 1986 Trans Am with front and rear disc, the rear are iron calipers. I am planning to buy a fourth gen rear with disc brakes, but I just want to make sure I have all of this straight.

My prop valve will work with the new brakes, because I already have discs?

My master cylinder is sufficient for the new PBR brakes?

I will be able to tie the brake lines on the fourth gen rear into my t block in the rear, because my fittings are all metric?

Thanks for the help, Ben

Re: Rear brakes confusion.

prop will work, adjustable will be ideal, but it will work
master is fine
brake lines are the same thread, should be fine, but i believe the later 4th gen that have 4 channel abs have 2 rear flex lines?

you will need custom parking brake cables available from flynbye and hawks. Or you have to swap the e brake handle, pull cable and equalizer bar from a later 4th gen as well.

While it will work, the bias will be off as there are different valves for disc/drum, disc/standard disc, and disc/1LE. I'd suggest the first design 1LE valve for a direct bolt-in or an after market adjustable which will require some plumbing but is probably the better choice. 86 would be able to provide more specific info about that, I believe.

Ok it's becoming clear now. The 1le prop valve is different than just a j65 prop valve?

All four-wheel disc cars are J65, but the 1LE valve is different than the standard valve.

Re: Rear brakes confusion.

Ed Miller has all the parts/knowledge you'll need for any thirdgen brake related problem. His front C5 kit was stupid easy and brake line/ebrake cable stuff makes a fourthgen rear swap practically fall in. He's always swamped as it's a small operation, so you need to be patient. But, IMHO, it's worth it.
