1967 corvette 4 piston calipers

1967 corvette 4 piston calipers

has anyone used a old 4 piston corvette caliper i had them on a 1967 gto and they have alot of stopping power and they dont cost alot

I cannot think of any stupider thing to do than to put old Vette brakes on ANYTHING. (including old Vettes...)

Those of us who have been in this hobby for a few years, know all too well how those cars are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS sitting in the garage waiting on one of 3 things: trailing arms, half-shafts, or calipers. I cannot tell you how many times I've known people who had one of those cars, fixed some one of those parts after the car sat up for a winter or whatever, and before they had driven it 5 times, one of the other 2 went bad. Then once they go through the whole cycle and get around to fix the 3rd one, they drive it about 5 more times and they're back to the 1st one goes bad again. More than one person I've known has sold the car when that happened; "all it needs is {fill in the blank from the list of 3}, just had the other 2 replaced". And someone who knew nothing about Vettes bites, and of course then THEY get to experience the treadmill.

There are FAR better brake options available today than that 50-yr-old junk.

How many of those cars do you own or have you owned? I can tell you one thing, those POS old corvette brakes perform a whole lot better than the stock junk on these cars. O ring pistons eliminate the lip seal issues from rotor runout (pumping in air/moisture) and stainless sleeves eliminate rusty bores (seals float seal on bore, not on pistons)

the reason your acquaintances have issues with them is because they do not know what they are doing. Are they checking rotor and bearing runout? Probably not. Setting up wheel beatrings on the rear of those cars requires special tools, most people do not have them, or posess the skills to accurately set up a set.

Another option is to get the new wilwood D8-4 or d8-6 piston calipers, they are a bolt in replacement for C2/3 corvette calipers.

Half shafts, they hardly ever fail on these cars, same with trailing arms. Rust? Yes, rust issues but the trailing arm bushings last for a very very long time.

im owned my gto 20 years would stop on a dime never had a caliper problem i really didnt want to spend 1 to 2 k on front brake setup

If they are the same 4 piston iron calipers that my buddy has on his 1975 Corvette, I would say no.

Reason is that large iron calipers get heat soaked pretty quickly and it takes forever to get them to cool down (like a heavy cast iron skillet). They also weigh a ton and aren't going to work with a 13" brake rotor (not an expert, can be wrong).
