no rear brakes, help
no rear brakes, help
I bought a 92 Camaro, V6 RS 5spd. When I bought it I noticed that the brakes felt weak. A few days after buying it the rear end gave out. Soooo I had to source another rear end and replace it. When I un-hooked the brake line going to the rear end there was no brake fluid leaking out. Basically there is no fluid in the rear lines. The front brakes are working, but the rear bakes aren't getting fluid. How is that? How can that happen?

Re: no rear brakes, help
Pretty straightforward and common, really... unfortunately... and to cars in general, not just these.
It's the rubber hose at the center of the rear end. Those have fittings at the end with REALLY TINY holes in em, and over time, they rust inside. Eventually the rust completely blocks the hole, and you get what you've got now.
Just change it out. It's like $12 and only takes a coupla minutes. Or, you could try to find a good stainless kit (meaning, NOT Russell).
If it fixes it, be aware that the 2 front ones have the EXACT SAME size hole, are made of the EXACT SAME material, have been submerged in the EXACT SAME moisture-attracting brake fluid for the EXACT SAME length of time, and are therefore likely in the EXACT SAME condition. The one just happened to get there before the others.

Re: no rear brakes, help
To better help understand what your saying : there is one brake line coming from the front of the car to a "T" fitting mounted nearly in the center of the axle, which then goes to each rear drum. When I pulled the rear end I disconnected that "T" from the line coming from the front of the car. There was NO fluid coming out of the front main line. It was dry as a bone before it even gets to the "T" fitting mounted to the rear end. Somewhere from the master cylinder to that "T" fitting fluid isn't coming. It's not that "T" fitting, it's before it somewhere that the fluid isn't getting through.
