1990 transam gta. stock Front disc, backs are drum.

Hi i was wondering if i should rebuild my front calipers or just get new ones. i would prefer to save the money and rebuild them.
Only problem is every rebuold kit looks different. and i would like to replace the piston while im at it.
Anyone have luck with this? and can someone point me in the right directon to order the right parts.

I've yet to have the front calipers fail in any meaningful way. If the pistons move, clean and grease the guidepin bushings, and go. If the pistons don't move, disconnect the hoses and try again. The hoses go bad, calipers? Not so much.

If they are bad, why bother rebuilding? Have you priced them out yet? Front calipers are something like $10-15 each. Not even worth cleaning up the old ones to make that savings.

Since you have the cast-iron calipers, they're SO CHEEEEEEEEEEEP it makes no sense whatsoever to "rebuild" them, as naf says. Just get new ones.

I've quit even re-using them when I put pads in... the calipers cost less than the pads, and the brakes work SO much better with new fresh ones, it's better to just swap em.
Change out the rubber lines too, if you haven't lately. Those are also only about $15 a side.

Hi tha is for the responses. The car was sitting for like 10/15 years or so.ethibg. I took both apart and cleaned them. One of the rubber or seal boot thing was cracked on one. After I cleaned all up one is working a lot better, one is still sticking.
amazon had acdelco refurbished driver side for 30$ and passenger for 45/50.

I haven't ordered them yet but I did order new brake line to caliper for both sides.

Wheres a cheaper place to buy them then?

They're just over $20 each from Advance Auto. They always have discounts on their page, or go to retailmenot.com to find the best discount, you might have to order a certain $$$ amount to get the best discount. Rock Auto has several options starting around $15, again search for a discount code. Keep in mind some places you order from charge tax or more/less shipping, some require you to return your cores, keep in mind what it'll cost to ship the old ones back.
