what exactly does the rear caliper rebuild fix??
i went out and brought the rear brake caliper rebuild kit from GM.. and i ended up strippin the bleeder screw so i went and brought a new caliper from Autozone.... but it looked like the old one i took apart. (had the yellow thing in the middle of the pison). so how do i know if it was rebuilt with the new parts? or does it matter? i mean what is the difference from what the stock calipers came with. and what the rebuild kit came with? i know that one of the problems was that if u didn't use the ebrake alot then they would stop working. but ill be using mine all the time now that i have the T-56 installed. so does it matter?

There are no obvious visual differences I could see between the "fixed" and "broken" calipers.

From reading through old posts it doesn't sound like there is anyway to visually differentiate between calipers with the updated parts or not. I was in a similar situation. I got two rebuilt ones from Autozone and got the recall kit. I figured I would put the reacall parts in just to be safe. It would have been a major pain in the butt to have to pull the calipers off later and fix them. Seemed silly since I already had the calipers sitting on the bench. Took me like 10 minutes to replace the parts in each caliper.

The recall kit is pretty cheap too, and it includes all the normal rebuild parts, so I wouldn't feel too bad about using it on "new" or "used" calipers.
well there is definatley a difference!!! i had to buy a new caliper cause i broke the bleeder screw on one of them. and when i got it. i took it apart and put the rebuild parts in..

If you bought them from autozone, they should have a lifetime warranty so it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't worry about it. I also recently bought new rear calipers from autozone and put them on and they work fine and came with a lifetime warranty so if they quit working in a couple years, i'll just exchange them for new ones.

Well once you pull it apart, yes there is a difference you can see.
But without pulling it apart I don't know that you can tell. If the check valve in the middle of the piston is absent, I had read in an old post, doesn't always mean it's the good part. But I don't know for sure on that. Looks like you are going to be putting the new stuff anyway in which is a good idea.

Apeiron, thanks for the info. I was just sent here by someone else. So the recall kit that you mentioned in the other forum for the rear caliper parking actuator is supposed to take care of the ebrake problem? Thanks again. :hail:
