Replacement for Rear Brake Caliper. . .

Hello,

I am just curious as to if anybody has installed this caliper: https://www.rockauto.com/fr/moreinfo...51414&jsn=4596
Part number: NUGEON 9717246B

I am looking to replace my driver side caliper and am curious as to if this is the proper replacement, and if it has the recalled parts fixed.

Did a search for the part number but came up empty. Looking forward to replies! One of the last steps before having a smooth ride (I hope)

I haven't used that caliper, but I do recommend replacing both left and right calipers per axle to keep the clamping force as even as possible. Generally I've found that if one caliper is sticky, the other isn't far behind.

Alright, I can do that. Do you know of a set of calipers that will just bolt on to the stock rear discs? I've got new rotors and pads ready for action.

It looks like Nugeon is the only company remaning these. Pretty much your only option to fix the stock rear disc calipers... I need to replace both of mine on my 86 IROC as the pistons are stuck in the retracted position and he parking break doesnt work..

There are a couple brands on ebay such as cardone, but none mention the recall kit.
Are the calipers the same on both sides? Or are there minor differences between the two?

If I were to order these, cause again, I do need calipers...

What would I be looking for in terms of the recall kit?

I mean, surely if they use all new parts, it should be assumed it has all been fixed.

Hey man, found this thread today because I'm installing those exact calipers after ordering a set back in october. Didn't bother putting them in until today because it was too damn cold in the garage.

Well it doesn't work for Driver side, unless I'm really dumb or I'm missing some crucial information. They claim it fits both sides, from 82 up to 88.

Here's a pic I took this morning, the handbrake brackets are mirrored and should work for passenger as far as I can tell.

I can't just flip the bracket and call it a day, the caliper isn't drilled to accept the bracket on the opposite side.

I didn't find any other part number claiming left/right fitment for rear brakes on this axle..

Re: Replacement for Rear Brake Caliper. . .

Well thanks for the heads up!

I decided im going to try and nab one of those NOS rebuild kits and hope that takes care of any of my problems.

Bit of a bummer how unclear things can be for our rear discs.

Since I can't really get a refund on those I'll bring them to the shop tomorrow and see if I can drill & tap a hole on the opposite side of the caliper and make the bracket fit.
In theory it should, they're flipped 180degree but not mirrored, so they're nearly the same. The only difference I see is in the casting for the handbrake lever bump.

The two red calipers in your picture are both assembled correctly, like the two off of my 87 and interchangeable. The old caliper in the middle looks like a 2ndgen design. Your car is a 1982? It's been said that (some) 82s had a few parts that differed from the rest of the third generation, and if any model year was to have received 2ndgen parts, it would've been 1982. Before you risk destroying one of the new calipers, get ahold a late 2ndgen rear caliper and compare it to yours. It looks like the calipers in all of the pictures I just viewed of 1979 10-bolt disc axles, with the e-brake brackets on the side of your 82 caliper.
