2nd owner of this car is a visually disabled veteran and is terminally ill. I've known him personally for almost 20 years. If I didn't have my own 91 Firebird project, I would pick this car up myself... I am helping him sell it.
He is friends with the original owner. He purchased it from her about 6 years ago. He spent a lot of $$$ fixing it up. I've been keeping up with this build for years (again, we are friends and both have thirdgen F bodies) and when he decided to sell it, I asked him for receipts of stuff and he did not have them (remember, he's blind). I had him call the bank to see, but their records only go back a year... The place that rebuilt the engine is now closed...
I'm going to write down what he told me, what I know & experienced, show pics and list the good and the bad despite him not having receipts and hope for the best... I took the car for a test drive with him the other day.
1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 Tuned Port Injection / Auto Trans / Hardtop
357 cubic inch (350 bored .040 over), aftermarket cam, reworked heads, roller rockers, headers, valve covers, exhaust, etc...
The engine work was performed by Clay Zeigler Racing in Clearwater Florida (no longer in business) 2 to 3 years ago.
Car has about 119k miles, but less than 1000 on rebuilt motor... It runs strong, good idle, PLENTY of power & fast! Waited in a drive through line, didn't overheat, no engine problems...
Had $1200 in transmission work done just before he bought it, and it shifts smooth, light or heavy loads...
Custom 16" wheels (could use polishing and brakes would look nice with caliper paint).
Tire size: 245 50 16 and it needs 4 new tires!
Paint: Black
Originally black, but it was painted a few years ago. It has some trouble spots, above the doors and some spidering on the hood. Missing some emblems.
Tinted Windows...
Owner states, "new sway bars, struts & shocks and rear end work"...
Steering: I drove his car the other day and was amazed at how good the steering felt. I spent $600 on a new steering box and his steering still feels better than mine
He had it trailered to Atlanta GA, then it was driven back. He estimated 26 MPG.
Interior in Gray, redone, seats, carpet, doors, headliner, has a spare set of sun visors (he said they sent him 2 sets).
Needs new Hood Struts, but rear hatch ones are ok.
AC... blew a little cold, but not hard. He said it use to blow hard, but someone worked on something and the fan won't go up any faster . . .??
Tachometer broken.
MPH worked, but I noticed a little jumpy in low miles per hour.
Driver side seat control broken. He managed to get it to move for me, I am tall, but he said he has a new switch that goes with car.
He stated $300 car cover in the trunk (as seen in pic)
Brakes: OMG! He said he had work done to them, new Master Cylinder and other stuff, they do need attention... may be air in the lines, or something, they do not work anywhere near as good as my 91 Firebirds... VIN shows it cam with rear disc brakes, but I didn't visually check...
A driver before me broke the turn signal mechanism... the stick is still there, but not working...
He states on occasion, VATS comes on and car will not start... many ways of defeating that system so it's not a problem for you... It was not a problem on my test drive, I turned the car off twice during the test drive, no problems...
Has aftermarket stereo, but didn't check it.... Too busy listening to the engine
Smoke free car, I did not detect any odors...
No accidents, Body in great shape (minus a few paint problems mentioned) drives nice, suspension feels sporty, tight and not worn out. Driver's door makes noise when opening, may need new pins/bushings, passenger door is fine. Dash pad was recovered, not as nice as new, but better than having big cracks in it. Electric windows both work fine... I had an issue with driver's door lock, but could still get in...
Car needs a few things, but engine (tans, rear end, suspension MINUS BRAKES) is new and strong, and many other parts replaced... Battery Tender on battery, kept under car port... Rarely driven...
Again, this is things he stated, things I've seen, observances of when I drove I recently and the pictures I've posted...
Car does not leave until funds have cleared.

Re: 89 Iroc Z28 357 TPI Auto / Black / Tampa Bay FL
Nice description and detail. You should check into a job where you travel around and test drive cars for people before they buy. That would be pretty cool and I know I would feel better buying a car that a neutral party drove and described!!

Thanks, I know a lot of the ins & outs of these particular cars, being I have one and have been working on it for a while... There are car check companies that do such things... When I get tired of my job (uh, I guess I'm there), I'll look into it
I wish he had or we could of found the receipts for more specs on the engine, but when you're blind most papers are just garbage that's in the way... It was stock when he bought it from his friend...
