I should have added that when our right wing government (Liberals) finally turfed the NDP out one of their promises was to permit private auto insurance companies to provide basic insurance. ICBC would have to compete with the private sector. ICBC got a new president one of Jimmy Patterson's (a leading BC capatalist) executives. Recently he recommended keeping ICBC the sole provider of basic auto insurance. The liberals promptly fired him and now ICBC has a new president.
