Fiberglass or other

I have a friend that has been building custom boxes out of fiberglass for years. My question is should I go with fiberglass and pay him to do it or should I build my own box out of MDF or such. I have already layed out the fiberglass box and it would look really nice especially after I paint it the same color as my car. What are your guys takes on it. What are the benefits to running fibergalss as apposed to other stuff? Other than the obvious of formability. Thanks a lot.

the biggest benefit, besides conforming, is the weight. a sub box made of fiberglass will be a lot lighter than the same box made of mdf. fiberglass is usually a bit more expensive. for 2 sheets of 3/4 mdf i'd pay $15-20 max, while the supplies for just making a set fiberglass kickpanels is around $50

ditto. big weight savings...if you build it with correct bracing and don't layer up 1/4" of glass....

Also, wood boxes all look the same...with the fiberglass you can get really creative.
