Hello-Ive seen then L7 subs advertised but never heard them or seen one up close.My question is how do they actually sound? Are they really hard hitting or just an entry level kind of thing.I dont know if the L7's are the only type of square subs,so if you have any experience with any type of square sub please let me know what you think of them.Im gonna be helping my friend pick out his system for his car soon so i wanted to know a little bit more first.Thank you!

People are hitting 150's with 1 or 2 of them. As far as Sq goes, I think they are fair. But they are a brute force sub

hmmm...ill definetely look into them...for 2 12" (square) subs would a 400 watt amp work allright?it would be a monobridged amp probably.

 

400w a piece? or total between the two?

I say, go buy a JBL 1200.1. They can be had for $250-280 depending on which site you go to. They are very reliable and clean amp.

400 watts between the two...i mostly listen to metal,th e only "rap" i listen to is twiztid/blazed,anything on psycopathic records,which is only occasionally anyways.So i figure i dont need huge amounts of bass or anything.Thanks for the info!!If anybody knows anything else feel free ta add something

 

what I was hinting at was....using a L7 with only 200w is like building a 4-bolt splayed sbc with all forged, balanced, blueprinted components, but putting stock heads, cam, intake and carb back on to only make 200hp...pretty much a waste of money for all the HD parts, for that power level...if you don't plan on upping the power level later on.


I would say look at the L5's, they are just the 'little brother' to the L7 (although, not very much smaller) and save some $$.

BUT, if you just WANT the L7's for bragging rights, go right ahead, and brag away! cause they are a sub worthy of bragging about. lol

 

For 400 watts I would look into a comp VR 12.

 

I think the L7's are great for competition, but in my opinion they sound like ****. they aren't much for the sq, for the price you pay you can get 4 12" JL w3's and have more bass and wwwwaaaayyyy better sound. just my opinoin though, unless your competion, I wouldn't spend teh dough. also they don't perform to well above 100hz and if you listen to metall alot of the bass is around 100hz - 250ish. just my opinion though :-)

 

Hmmmm...Thats something to think about 87transam,but i kinda want somehting no one else uses you know?I guess ill have to go and find a place where i can listen to them for my self.So if i did go with square subs, instead of using the 1200 watt amp,could i get two of the L5's and then a 600 watt monobridged amp (id use it at 2 ohms)?So two 10" sqauare subs put out more bass than 2 10" round subs, right?

 

ya they put out more because more cone surface. and if I were you I'd just spend the money and get teh 1200.1 amp. then when your ready for 8 subs you'll have decent power :-)

 

8 subs good *** i dont own a low rider man I also have t worry about my dad not knowing how loud my system can go,he thinks its illegal if you can barely hear a stereo outside of a car,im like um-hmmm whatever.I was looking at the L5's online and they are 200 bucks a piece,i could get 2 or 3 good 12"subs for that price so...Thanks for all the replies!!

 

i kidding bout the 8, but the L7's are not worth it at all in my opinon. the L5's are getting there, but still not quite worth it. and right now I have just one 12" w3(others in warranty service) running 250w and it is unbearable. so I mean 2 12" running 250w will pound out your brains :-) there isn't a need to spend the money in my opinion unless your competition like I said before. I wish I wouldn't have spent so much on mine, a person who wants to hear till their 30 only needs one :-) its cool to show off, but its pretty much pointless after that with 2

 

want a sub no one has?? Well, go buy an Image Dynamics IDMAX. WAY more output than a VR, or most any other 12" subs out there. 400rms to just it would suffice, but to make it really happy send about 700-1000 They are avail in dual 4ohm and dual 2ohm config's. They are also among the top drivers out there in the SQ arena.

Or look into an Adire Brahma, tons of output, super clean, and I woud put money that people you run into the street will of NEVER heard of them, but will blow away their 'awesome' JL's (excluding the W7) and RF's that they love.

But these subs do cost considerably more....$330 for the idmax and $370 for the brahma.

 

thats cool man, I'm not saying DON'T get em either. I mean they are good subs, also when you wire em in put a shut off switch in the signal wire. cause I garantee even at low volumes your dad will know :-)

 

haha yeah i know im telling him that im gettin like a 200 watt amp or somehting,and that cuz of the music i listen to i dont need much.I went to best buy today and looked at a couple possibilities.There were some rockford fosgate 12" subs i wanted,they were a hundred bucks a piece,i dont know what model they were.I figure 3 of those with a 1200 watt amp should do pretty good.They were on display in a band pass box(2,not 3).Since thirdgens are like hatchbacks,and the subs are right under the glass usually,isnt that like the effect a bandpass box has?Thanks for all your comments guys!!

 

I wouldn't buy the RF subs except the ones that are like $250 a piece the hx2's I belive. if you want cheaper subs look at the infinity reference or alpine type r's I think those are about your best budget subs.

 

Hmmmmm...i dont know,i wont be getting a system for myself for a long time probably,im still driving my dads car (hehe i turn 16 finally on wednsday!!!).So i guess in a couple of months ill start looking more in depth.The only places here in tucson that sells infinity's and polk is a place called audio express,and i think they are kinda overpriced.I went looking with my friend today as i said,but then he wasnt able to get the money for the system like he said he would,so well see what happens.Thanks alot tho for all the info and opinions,it definitely gave me a few ideas.

If you want something nobody else has you could go w/ some Sony Xplod's I think I'm the only one that has them and LIKES them. Oh well. Hey,where can you get those brahmas and what's there web site address? I make bout $600 every 2 weeks, so I might look into those .
