Would a pair of tweeters help???

I currently have Pioneer 4x6s up front and Pioneer 6x9s in the back. I also have a Kenwood 4 channel 280 watt amp, a 12" Kenwood sub, and a Pioneer head unit. I have the sub and the two front speakers hooked up to the amp. The two rears are fed right off of the head unit. The system sounds great. BUT, when I get into my friend's 99 Grand Am GT, with a stock sound system, it sounds much better. I know his has tweeters mounted down low by the A-pillars. You think doing this to my car would help? Also, would it be wise to just tap off of the front speaker wires which are being amplified? Thanks.

Your pioneer speakers are already perfectly capable of producing plenty of highs. Just adding more highs, and especially from yet another location, is just going to complicate things and not help.

If you want better sound quality, consider investing in some higher quality speakers, and putting them in a better spot.

Those pioneer speakers tend to be bright and a tad harsh. Harsh speakers, when put into the dash facing at the windshield, become VERY harsh. Bad combo. A quick and easy way to improve your sound is to buy some better front speakers that have a smoother midrange and high frequency sound. This will help a little.

The best solution is to get better speakers and get them out of the dash. DJ Sexay's kick panels would be your best bet. Hopefully somebody will start making them and selling them at a reasonable price like DJ did. Slap those in with a good pair of component speakers, and you'll be set to go. I'd also either completely disconnect the 6x9s, or run a passive 2-4khz low pass filter to get all of the highs out of them. This will bring your image up front, and will also prevent the important vocal-range from being reproduced by 2 pair of non similar drivers.

If you look at most competitive cars in the sound-quality portions of soundoffs, they usually have either no rear fill, or rear fill being provided by drivers identical to the front, except at an attenuated volume and limited bandwidth.
