Power wire to cigarette lighter question
Power wire to cigarette lighter question
Someone told me in here a while back i could use the power wire to the cigarette lighter to hookup to my head unit because it's a constant power wire. The other wire would be to the radio fuse box. Anyways how do i pull out the cigarette lighter assembly? Does it pop out, screw out, or however? I don't feel like gettin under the dash. Any simple way suggestions would be great. Laters.

It screws out. There are 2 dummy screws, and 2 screws that actually hold the lighter assembly in place if I recall correctly. The constant +12 wire for the radio is orange, and it is usually on a seperate harness from the main radio harness. Test for constant 12v with the ignition off. Sometimes a blown dome light will make this wire dead, so first check the fuse in the fuse box, and replace the dome light if needed. You should be good to go

Why bother using the cig lighter wire for power? Why not use the wire that's already in the radio harness? There's a constant +12 (memory) and a switched +12.
because there is no wiring at all where the stereo should be. The car didnot come with a radio and there apparently is no wiring either. My car is a 1LE but i don't know if it came with radio delete. Kind of sucks because i have to find the wire hookups but it's only those two wires. Anyways does the cig light wire go into the fuse box also? I don't want to splice. I feel like just hookin the wire into the fuse area. Later.
Most cars even with the radio delete option came wired anyway. Poke around in the radio compartment really carefully. Usually these wires are taped back onto a harness, or in a very out of the way place. To be sure, pull one of the B-pillar panels where the rear speakers should be, and check for those speaker wires. Again, they will be well hidden, probably taped either to a harness, or an interior panel. Anyway, here are the wire colors you should find on the harness, if it is there.
Orange=constant + 12 volts
Yellow=switched +12
Black (or chassis)=ground
Dimmer=grey (shows ground with headlights off, +12V with lights on)
Power antenna (if equipped)=pink
LF+ tan
LF- grey
RF+ light green
RF- dark green
LR+ brown
LR- yellow
RR+ dark blue
RR- light blue
If you don't find a harness, you will obviously have to run your own speaker wiring. It is perfectly OK to tap into wires under the dash for power and ground, just make sure they are well insulated, preferably soldered and taped. Hope this helps.

your best bet is to go to sears or a stereo shop and get the factory conversion connector that goes over to any generic radio connector. If you want a better power and gnd source, run a ground to the metal part of the dash and a 12ga wire to the B+ constant on the fuse panel.
