Non-3rd gen question, please help!

I know this is a 3rd gen site, but I figured one of you guys could help. I just bought a 1979 Trans Am and I want to put a stereo in it. It has 6x9's in the back, but it does not appear to have front speakers. Is there a place to mount them? And if so, what size are they? and if not, are there kits like the 3rd gen kick panel kits for these cars? I scoured the internet all day for info on this car, and I could only find very basic stuff. There isn't a site that is comparable to Thirdgen.org for the 2nd generation f-bodies! This site has more info on them than the so-called 2nd gen sites! Well anyway, I really need the help. Any help would be appreciated!

Well I don't think most of us could help you, since you don't have that gen and are not familiar with it. But are you sure it doesn't come with front speakers? Does your radio have the fade option where you could fade it to the front to see if there was any sound coming from up there? You could also posting this on a car audio only car website where there might be a more vast amount of cars, someone might have gone through this before.

I had a '75 Camaro back in the day. The only way to add front speakers was to build a custom door panel, or custom kick panels. I wouldn't even attempt the dash. Mine had a little plastic rack thing on each door panel, so I couldn't just cut a hole and mount speakers. If you can't find anything for it, send me an E-mail. We can talk about custom fiberglass kicks or door panels if you're interested.

Well, I got around to wiring in my stereo yesterday. I got the rear speakers in fine, and they sound great. The car came with some alpine 4'' speakers that I found under the dash, and for now I just wedged them in between the dash and the console. I'm gonna go to a junkyard and get some kick panels an put 4'' speakers in them. The door panels I have are the deluxe edition ones, and since they are hard to come by, I don't want to cut them up. Thanks for all the help!
