use wood instead of sheet metal for 6x9's??

use wood instead of sheet metal for 6x9's??

I thought i remembered hear a while back on here that u can use a piece of wood to replace the sheet metal that the rear 6x9's mount to. what kind of wood should i use and what thickness??

well, i actually used plexi when i put in my 6 1/2"s back there. but it doesnt have to be anything really heavy, just something to hold the speaker up.

Agreed. I actually made mounting plates for my 6.5" components out of masonite. (it's VERY dense) I duplicated the crappy plastic plates that were in there, cut the hole for the 6.5", surface mounted the tweeter. Before installation of speakers, I sprayed the whole piece with undercoating, to deaden it a little bit, and ran a strip of closed-cell insulation around the mounting flange, so it doesn't rattle.
