I know how you feel... All my system (which wasn't very good) was stollen in my friends driveway last Saturday. I'm going through the insurance BS now. The good news for me is that I have a chance to upgrade my system and my dad is going to get me one crazy awsome alarm.

hey, i too have gone through that. but made out quite nicely with insurance and got enough to get a better camaro (the 89 v8 rs i've got now) and some other goodies. be prepared to wait a couple months for the money though, if its even covered on your insurance policy
Damn man, that sucks. Those theives were pretty damn brave (or incredibly stupid) to break into a car in a subdivision in the middle of the day.
My car (or the stereo) getting stolen is my worse fear.

I feel you, man. Last Thurs. a guy tried to steal my ride, at about 4:30 in the morning. I just happened to be outside smoking a cig, when a car pulled up next door. This guy got out of the passenger seat, walked right over to my 'Maro, and unlocked the door, utilizing a Slim Jim. It took him about two seconds to work the lock open with it. Needless to say, as soon as I realized this guy was screwing with my car, I bolted after him. But the guy saw me coming, and jumped back in his buddy's car, and they took off. By the time I had gone back inside and grabbed my keys, they were gone. But I keep thinking: if I hadn't just happened to be out there then, I would probably be short one thirdgen right now. I never believed in alarms as anything more than an annoyance, but I am getting one ASAP. Plus, I had my windows tinted as dark as possible the next day, so no one can see the system. Crazy luck, huh?
custom shop, or best buy or circuit city, and get DEI!!!!!

Eclipse replaces my stuff for free if it ever gets stolen. These cars are so easy to break into it's ridiculous. I was thinking of making a good steel bracket for my HU and bolting that to the car. Screw this cheap plastic crap. My car is fairly steal proof since I had to wire manual switches into the fuel pump and starter. I'm getting rid of my big box and 12s for the same reason. Too high profile, and it takes up way too much room and weighs about 50 lbs.
When I'm in a town I don't like I usually pull out the fuel pump fuse.. I don't have a system but I've always got a lot of CDs, that's the only thing I worry about. But, I usually hide them under my car cover that sits in a bag in the back seat, so there's no more bait for would-be theives.
I think a combination of good alarm (with glass sensors and ignition cutoff), shaved door handles (or keyholes), dark tint, and common sense when parking or bumping sounds will prevent theft in most cases.
Also, if you have the ability I would get the alarm installed out of town. I say this because here in Hawaii there is a suspected theft ring where the shops that install alarms pass info to thieves (plate #'s and how the alarm was installed) so cars get jacked alot easier. They usually screwdriver the keyhole and somehow
know how to disable the alarm so peoples rides get jacked right out of their driveways with no sound (except for the startup of the car and a burnout maybe? hahah).
I park my truck in my garage (enclosed) and I also have 6 security cameras around my house (one aiming @ my car port) so I record anything that happens. I think the most important part is the common sense thing (not saying you did anything wrong FLYNLOW, just bad luck there).
