Pioneer CD/AM/FM in IROC
Project
I just thought I'd post impressions of this unit installed into my '86 IROC.
Setup
-Pioneer Model #DEH-P47DH, CD/AM/FM receiver
-Supplier Crutchfield, $270 to my door
-Speakers, stock IROC: 2-front; 2-rear
Installation
-electrical: Wiring was a snap with the free I/F harness supplied.
-mechanical: here I had to fab the mounting brackets.
Results
-The fit is perfect and it looks good installed.
-I was satisfied with my OEM unit till it died recently.
-The FM sound is excellent from this unit even through my stock speakers; a fine improvement over the OEM setup.
-The CD sound is unbelievable, even overcomes the exhaust note from the Edelbrock TES, hi-flow cat and Edelbrock cat-back.
-The unit is relatively easy to setup and program once installed.
Visual
If anyone is looking to upgrade their 3rd gen sound, I strongly recommend this unit as the basis.
Note: Keep your stock unit handy as you may need to use the mounting brackets (I had already tossed mine).

yes those little brackets are pretty much required for the manufactured mounting kits. but if your handy like jim up there, just toss the radio and have at it. you could also do it for fun. its not advised though.
