I have not heard the comps before but I have a comp vr 12 in a 1.5 cu ft box sealed with a little over 800 watts going to it. I don't recemond this much power overkill, but everything else sound good on it. It sounded better than my old kicker solobaric (round style) sub.

there is a diffenent difference in the two. the vrs can take more power, are DVCs, and sound cleaner. Oh and yes, they do hit harder.

I've got a lot of experience with the Kicker subs, the main differences are the dual voice coils which provide wiring flexibility;
between the two models offered (two 4 ohlm voice coils or two 2 ohlm voice coils) you can wire these combinations with one sub:
1, 2, 4, 8 ohlms. The second difference is the surrond material, the Comp has a foam surround, and the Comp VR has a rubber surround. Now the rubber surrond will offer better durability (won't rot or rip), but the performance difference between rubber and foam is a matter of opinion (JL audio subs have foam surrounds). The big deciding factor is how much power you want to run, up to about 150 watts RMS, they'll both sound about the same, but if you want to run more juice, go with the VRs. Or if they will be abused (I run two 10" VRs in my open top 4Runner and they have held up flawlessly being hit with water, dirt, mud), run the VRs. I've built systems around the Comp and the VR and they're both great subs, take your pick. Either way, Kicker is the way to go. Hope this helps.
