steering wheel controls

I have an 88 gta with the radio controls on the wheel. Has anyone ever had a problem with their buttons cutting out when thier wheel is turned to certain points? And does anyone have or know who makes the infared adapter for these controls and remote controled head units?

i think aftermarket adapters are from PAC or something like that.

the reason the buttons can cut out is because the electrical connections are made with a set of slip rings, which can get dirty. if you take the wheel off (or at least the electronics maybe) you can clean these off by lightly sanding them.

fyi, no one ever tells you how to get the buttons off. unhook the rubber part at the top corners and about 1/2" in from the bottom ends. you have to push it into the wheel, there's little slots with little rubber T's that hold it in. after those are off, it's held on by velcro, so just pull/pry it off (the wires aren't that long, so dont' pull to hard/far)
