My 89 Formula system

I went with 4 Bazooka 12" subs, MB Quart 6.5" components, and JBL 6x9's. The sub amp is a Lanzar 225 x 4 and the rest is powered by a Soundstorm 170 x 4. Its an old Alpine head unit and Coustic EQ up front.

Looks pretty nice. Do you have any other pics of the four subs? the one pic is pretty dark.
Have you taken it to a dB drag?

I just finished the install yesterday. Eventually I'll find out how it does. The Bazookas don't drop real low, but they have real nice punc. With everything being black, the pictures tend to come out dark. We'll see if this shot is any better.

That second pic is better. Looks real good. How many ft^3 is that box of yours? Looks like a good idea. Everyone else buts the subs in the well and the amps on the tank.

The box is four seperate chambers, each being .75 ft^3. Thats why I used the Bazooka subs. They can go in as little as .63 ft^3 each.

Sweet. Do you happen to have the plans to that box? Does the box go into the well? I might have to look into something like that. Whats better than a well box with two 12s? A box with four 12s

The box does not go into the well at all. With the hatch closed, the box goes from the back of the seat right up to the end of the glass. To access the well, you fold the seat down and slide the box forward a few inches. Then you have full access to the amps. The amp rack lifts out to give access to the cap, distribution blocks, and the wiring.

It hits pretty hard. The Bazookas don't handle the real low stuff too well, but the punchy bass sounds awesome. I appreciate all the compliments. What other shots do you want to see?

Now that I can see them, it looks great. Does the side panel still open?

The locking side panel does still open. In order to open the spare tire compartment, you just need to fold the rear seat down and slide the box forward. Then the plastic side panel can be opened for the spare.

Holy smokes, this is an oldie.
I didn't realize two years have past since I put my system in. It's not always wide out in the open like that. I built a cover for it so when the hatch is shut it just has black carpet over the entire hatch. As far as the Quarts go, they are awesome. I previously had 5.25" MB Quart components, so going to the 6" was just a slight upgrade. The Quart can play really loud and stay clean. I really like them.

I love those custom kicks!! How'd you build them? Got a diagram for them?
I was thinking of gutting my Bose kicks to do something like that--but I didn't really want to trash them.

Re: My 89 Formula system

The box itself is a pretty simple design. It's just a big square that's divided into four equal squares inside. It's made from 3/4" MDF, and then i coated it with spray adhesive and covered it in black carpet from my local AutoZone. I probably spent under $100 making it. It's got nice punchy, tight bass, but does not drop super low. That suites me fine since I listen to a lot of metal that has fast double bassing. If you're going for low bass or monster dB, you may be better served going with a different setup.
