Good set up for 88 IROC

I am curious to know what is a good setup for a 88 IROC, i am looking to spend like 500(i have a friend at bestbuy so i got the hook up cheap). i dont want anything flashy, like lcd screen or any other bs but as for like subs and speakers and a cd player, whats good, and what is a good car alarm to keep all this stuff safe from prying eyes and hands.

Nice Icon, I didn;t know anyone else appreciates Family Guy

Ok Go to best buy and get a Pioneer Mosfet Face plate CD player, grab some 4X6's and 6X9's, Cerwin Vega ( they are decent), and buy two Punch subs, and a 2 channel 600 watt sony explode amp, and a box that will fit in th gap, facing in towards you. If you lay a normal box upsode down it does this, so the narrow end goes in the back "trunk" of our car. That should be about 500 with your buds discount. If you want to go all out get a 4 way pos amp to hook up to your speakers.

$500 isn't going to get you a complete system of any quality. If I were you, I'd use that money for a deck and speakers. Pick up some of Rez's kick panels, get a nice pair of component speakers for them, and use the rest on the deck. When funding permits, you can worry about adding more bass.

If you try to stretch the money to cover an amp and subs, along with installation accessories (dash kit, wire, fuses, etc) you're going to wind up with garbage that sounds medocre at best. In a few months you'll be wanting to upgrade, and the junk you have to replace isn't going to do you any good. By spending more on better stuff, you wind up in the same place down the road, but you didn't waste your money on a bunch of junk that isn't doing you any good.

mdf/supplies to build box = 40$
MTX 5channel Amp (puts out i think 200rms for sub channel, 60 to other 4 = ebay for 220$ (slightly used)
12inch mtx subs (buy one get one free) 80$
wiring/cables = 40$ (find an actual electronics store other than the main stream ones, and you'll get really good deals - i went with some 4guage cable for power and 12 guage cable for new speaker wires going everywhere else)
polk front 4x6 = 120$
the rear 6x9's are still some crappy unknown brand that came with the car, but i don't really notice them that much

all in all right at 500, but you gotta be patient and find good deals, and don't cheap out on brands...

but i suppose you also were looking for a headunit, which that alone you could spend somewhere near 500 getting the exact one you want... all the other stuff is pretty much changeable/customizable for fairly cheap if you don't like a certain aspect of it, but the headunit is what you come in contact with frequently - spend alot of time finding just the right one, and you'll prolly be happy - besides, if you do this peice by peice, it's like christmas every so often - not just one big mad bill on the credit card...

I also work at Best Buy.... and $500 will go a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way!!

Here's an example:

Rockford Fosgate 200m amp... normally $179, now $68 with discount!

Pioneer 6x9" 4 way speakers... $99 before, $35 after!

It differs with everything, but unlike some store discounts that are 10-20% off the price, we get 5% over store cost and that always works out quite nicely
