quick question about watts

okay i am trying to get the boom sound for my car..not the GTA..but you can pretend it is and answer my question. if i get a 200x200 alpine amp and some"bulldog" 8" subs with tweeters that have 600(between them i guess) what will happen? will the amp blow the speakers? will not be able to run the speakers... i can get all this for less than 180 USD, so thats why i am interested. cheap= me

It'll sound like a rabid monkey banging on a coffee can.

will the amp blow the speakers?
Not if you don't crank the volume past the point of distortion. That being said, with the combination of sh*t speakers, low power and an untrained ear... yeah, you'll blow up the speakers.

There's a reason that stuff is so cheap. Realistically, you're not going to run 12s with an $800 engine, and you're not going to get good sound for $200.

Assuming you already have a decent aftermarket cd player, your $200 is best spent on a nice set of coax speakers for the front and back. If all you want is bass, if you can score a decent used amp, you can get some inexpensive subs that hit pretty hard.

ok

the amp is good. it was used for a little while by my neighbour. he wants 200 for it used. and the subs will cost about 100 with two tweeters. all i want is the bass sound so if i could find just some subs without tweeters it would be good right? and yes i do have an aftermarket CD player with sub control and stuff on it..

Well, a $200 used alpine amp doesn't sound so bad. I thought you found something new for that much.

But I'd still avoid those speakers like the plaigue.

I definitley gotta agree with you on this one Jim. The amp is probably pretty good, but you're not gonna be able to appreciate the quality with a pair of cheap 8's. If I was you I would buy a decent 12" sub for 80 bucks and forget about the 8s.
