Alpine Type R or Kicker Comp VR?

I am ready to buy my new subs and I really can't decide between the two. Either way I am getting 2 and they are going to be powered by a JBL BP600.1. I can get the Kickers for $150 for a pair, but it looks like the Apline Type R is $110 each cheapest? Does anyone know where I can get them cheaper? Also I was gonna order from Ikesound but they are out of the JBL amp it seems. So bottom line, what are the pros and cons of the subs? I want more booming bass and the ability to hit lower notes with less distortion than my Polk subs.

I wasn't to happy with the low frequency output of my single Comp vr 12. I had it in a 1.5 cu ft sealed box but have never heard alpine subs to compare them either.

The other option is to scrap the dual 12" setup and go for a single 15" CV Stroker. I know they can go low and they are loud, I dunno about SQ though...

I think the stroker would sound good but you would need a very big box. look into adire, elemental designs, or resonant enginering. these are just a few bang for the buck subs for decent SQL

I wouldn't do a stroker for SQ..ever.

For street bass, the VR's in a 2.0 sealed per driver, or smaller ported 1.75 would slam. If you have limits on power, like the 600.1, do two 10's in ported 1.50 each. Make them slot ports, 10.5" wide and 2.5" tall, and 20.25" deep. This will be around 40hz.

You will see more output ported over sealed.

So the 600.1 isnt enough power for these subs? I was going to get the dual 4 ohm VC models and set them up to run at 1ohm so I should be seeing more than 600W RMS for the 2 subs. Also, I am definitly going for 12"s since that is what my box holds. I am going to have to go out and measure to see how much airspace I have, but it is a well box that sits flush with the package shelf so it may not be that much...would it be better if I went with a single 12" or would that not sound as good?

Ok, so you already have the box. Measure the inside and see what cu.ft you have internally. The VR's will be fine in that box with that power. Since you are size restricted and already have the box, that will be fine.

I have no problem making a new box if need be, it isn't a big deal and I would rather have better sound anyway. But what is the ideal specifications for the 12" VRs?

you can do 1.0, but at 2.0 they sound mucho better.

Should I just do a single 15" or single 12" if I only have 1.0 per sub to use? Or am I still better off with 2 even though I don't have the airspace?

go with the two vr 12s. there is enough airspace. its not on the upper level but itll do fine. dont worry about ported if you are going sq anyways. too much trouble and it could hurt the sound. it would probably be better if you had those wired at a higher imp. then 1 ohm if you are going for sq. 2 ohm or 4 ohm would be better. the speakers are more efficent and there is less distortion.

I ended up ordering the dual 4ohm version of the Comp VRs. Thanks for the help guys. Since the JBL is 1 ohm stable I should wire the VC and the 2 subs in parallel correct?

dude, i am all about quality, but there is NO reason for most people to get a woofer like that, when they have no chance in hell of supplying it the power it needs.

i know kove is quality stuff, but there are better bang for the buck stuff for all but the serious competitor, hell, even for the serious competitor, there are cheaper ways to get louder.

Ok, I pulled the box out of the car and measured internally and it is 1.03 cubic feet (that is actual airspace). I want more boom in my bass, so what should I do as far as porting? I could build a new box too if this one is really going to hinder the performance of the sub.

If your going ported you'll need 1.75 cu ft plus port displacement even sealed thats to small

i would definitely look into making a larger box if possible, i would stick with something like a 1.5 / 1.75 sealed per woofer.

yea, that is what I figured...I dunno if I can really make the box any bigger though and still let my T-Tops rest over it. I guess I could move the clips up higher somehow and cut into the back interior plastic if need be.

You never siad did you get 12s or 10s? May sound kindda crazy but in box you have I think 2 8" or 10" l5/7s would sound very nice.
