Alternative 6x9 location
I am about ready to plan out my system and I was thinking....
Has anyone installed 6x9's in the rear instead of the sail panel area?
What I was thinking was installing 6x9's and a sub in the rear hatch area with each speaker in a seperate sealed section. The end result will be a smooth looking speaker config over the storage well. Maybe even tiliting it up a bit for imaging.
The reason why I was considering this was that I wanted better imaging and not have the speakers in the sail panel area being overpowering.
I am mainly going for SQ than pure volume.
Thanks in advance

I think the sail panels are about your best honostly. If you have kicks, the the front people have great imaging, and keeping the 6x9's in the sail panels gives the rear passengers good imaging. But iunno, thats just my thinking.
or what you could do, is make some plates to put a decent coax 6.5 in the sail panels. that woud be what i would do, if i were going for absolute sq, however personally, i am a big fan of the 8inch woofers in the sails, sounds good IMO.
i never seem to have enough midbass.

There are 2 places I would think about putting rear speakers besides the sail pannels. Both require a complex fiberglass enclosure that I could not possibly make
First, I am not sure about head room but could you mount them right where the plastic curves up above the sail pannel and angle them towards the front. You would loose some rear visability probably, and it wouldnt help the back seat people. But seriously, how many of you stuff people back there for more than a few minute drive? Other spot would be where the seatbelt mechanism is covered in the back. Fiberglass a box that goes over that and points the speakers towards the front making sure the speakers clear the back seats. Any thoughts?

I am currently in the process of building a custom setup. I am installing one 12" sub and 2 6x9 speakers in the rear hatch. I have had 6x9s in my hatch just in 6x9 boxes for the past 6 months. Just like bass in the hatch, highs also sound great when amped.

Thanks, everyone, for your input.
I ended up putting a 10" Kenwood sub in the trunk well and kept the 6x9's in the sail panels. With a few adjustments on the head unit and some tuning of the amp, the system sounds real smooth and imaging is rather good.
Thanks again!
