Overheating maybe ?

I have my amp at th end of the trunk.. where the spare should be. an then I made a wooden plank and put my sub on it so it covers it up so you can't see the amp. I put in a hole for air flow. when I drive down and I have my tunes kicking loud, system just cuts of ... and hten in a few minutes kicks back on. and so on and so forth. I would imagine its overheating ? its a 500W amp.. what can I do to fix this .. I would like to keep the wooden plamnk to hide the amp. Maybe electric fans ? more air ?
thanks
Chris

I wouldnt think it is over heating. I would check your power and ground connections. Did you sand down the area where you put your ground?

Check you wiring first and make sure your not putting it under a load it can't handle first before you get the fans. If that's all straight, then go for the fans. The board you have covering it may be too close for air to circulate also so if you can, move it out a bit.

what impedance are you running it at? what amp is it?

yes, it is going into thermal protection, from what it sounds like.

get that stupid wooden plank off of there, you are covering up the majority of the heatsink, wood isnt a good conductor.

yes....its overheating ....no doubt.....and you sound like you've had your setup for quite awhile....if you had the speakers hooked up in a way thats its putting to much of a load...something other..then overheating would have happened by now....like your speakers wouldn't sound as great and start to actually "blow"
that wood is killing you.....if...you don't get some more air in there buddy.....you need to either ditch that.....or get a serious fan
