Getting my pioneer deck flush on my 82 TA

I just bought the scosche stereo kit part # GM 1516. The only thing holding me back is the metal piece in the back that was for the factory radio hits the aftermarket deck. I looked and it wasn't bolted on. My first idea was to just cut it out, but then I thought I may want it back in someday. Any suggestions?

That is what I did. My Clarion sits nice and flush. Give it a shot.
