over powering isnt necessarily that bad of a thing....just make sure you listen for distortion when you set your gains or get them set by a professional. And also you'll want to have those speakers high passed quite high

i ran 500 wrms to a 100wrms sub for about 4 months in a ported box and everything was fine there. It just depends if the watts are clean or not and how the speaker is setup.

I wanted 2 hook it up because they start 2 distort a little all the way up. Some one told me the reasons speakers distort is because they don't have enuff power. Is that true, and do u think this would make them sound better putting the amp on them?

speakers dont distort from not having enough power

they distort because they are being sent a dirty signal and they are making it audible. Think of it this way, your source unit (cd player or amplifier whichever you are using) is the King and your speakers are the messenger. If the king sends bad news the messenger just transports it...you cant blame him, dont shoot the messenger its not his fault. Most stock speakers can sound decent with good amplification. You'll notice a big difference in sound quality and output if you amplify your speakers; providing the amp is of decent quality and is set up correctly

speakers can also distort by reaching their mechanical limits but that is a lot more audible so you can tell the difference. Reaching mechanical limits would be from too much power or not being crossed over correctly.

but if the speakers distort all the way up then they might be damaged in some way so they will have to be repaired/replaced
