Best Buy Scamming?

Hey guys I just bought a new cd player for my car and 2 new speakers (not the one under the dash) from Best Buy. They told me since i have the Boss original sound system that I would need to have my car all rewired for new stuff. I thought this was BS and they wanted $140 to do it (3 hours) Is this BS or what it should be?

It's not BS, actually. The Bose system uses 2ohm speakers and amps. Anything Best Buy or a similar chain would sell is all 4ohm equipment. It needs to be rewired.

What they're not telling you is that it's possible to use your existing setup. It's just that they don't carry any speakers for it.

the reality is that thre are NO speakers for it...not just best buy. The Bose system either uses amps right on the speakers, or a central amplifier that powers all of them.

If the speakers each have their own amp, the installer has to go to each speaker with a new speaker lead to bypass it. If its a central amp, the installer has to take 4 speaker leads to the amp and splice into the factory wiring on the "other side" of the amp.

either way, there is a fair bit of custom labour involved. There are no adaptors or anything you can use.....you could replace the speakers with any typical 4 ohm car audio drivers, but you'd only get 1/2 the amplifiers power to each. the output would be quite low....

do it right...have the factory Bose system bypassed and you'll be happy.
